Growing Up Military.....In Our Own Words - Entries Must be Submitted by January 20, 2015
Submissions will be accepted from all military-connected students, Pre-K through high school. Selected submissions will be included in the 2015 MCB Quantico Education Symposium publication “In Our Own Words” and may appear in other educationally related trainings or publications associated with the School Liaison Program.

Family Mathematics Expo
When: Saturday, January 10th

Stafford County’s K-8 Mathematics Specialists cordially invite everyone to see the showcase of mathematics excellence in our schools.  Come join the fun—bring the whole family and explore the

exciting mathematics happening in your child’s
Activities and Sessions to include:
· 350 years of Mathematics in Stafford County
· STEM Presentations
· Using iPAD Apps with Your Child
· The “Tools” and “Toys” of Mathematics
· Utilizing the ‘Web’
· 3D Structure Building

All teachers and interested parents are encouraged to review the textbooks under consideration for adoption and to complete an evaluation rubric. Locations to review these materials are listed below. Rubrics will be available at each public review location. Completed rubrics will be forwarded on to the appropriate textbook committee.

Stafford County Schools Night at University of Mary Washington Sponsored by Home Team Grill

All Stafford County Public School Students and Staff receive FREE admission to the UMW basketball games on Saturday, January 3, 2015.  Middle and high school students, and staff must show ID's.  Students may bring a guest.  Elementary school students must be accompanied by a parent.  The Women's Basketball game begins at 1:00 p.m., and the Men's Basketball will be at 3:00 p.m.  Half Time contest, prizes and giveaways sponsored by Home Team Grill.  Ticket prizes start at $5.00.  For additional information, please click here or UMWEagles.com.
2015 Cyber Security Awareness: 'Kids Safe Online Poster Contest'
Students in grades kindergarten through 12 are invited to participate in the Commonwealth of Virginia’s 2015 Kids Safe Online Poster contest. The contest is sponsored by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) in conjunction with the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC). This is a national contest which encourages our youth to use the Internet safely and securely. Please forward this information to individuals in your school district that would be interested in this contest.

Educating our children about the rules of Internet safety will encourage them to make better decisions when posting pictures, videos and personal information online.  Commonwealth of Virginia submittals must be received by January 7, 2015. Winners of the Virginia contest will be automatically submitted to the national contest.

The top three winning posters from Virginia for each grade group (K-5, 6-8 and 9-12) will be submitted to the national Multi-State Cyber Security Awareness poster contest. Teams are Now Forming for the 3rd Annual Martin Luther King Day of Service Event, Canstruction® - Register Your Team by January 5, 2015

Canstruction® teams are comprised of students, teachers, area businesses, and community members who will compete to build giant structures made entirely out of canned food.  This year's event will be held at the Spotsylvania Towne Center and the public judging will begin on Saturday, January 17 through Sunday, January 18.  The registration deadline to enter your team is January 5, 2015.  After the event all food is donated to the Fredericksburg Area Food Bank.  Click here for official rules and registration information.

Drew Middle School's first year of operation was in 1975. Prior to the school being a middle school, it was the original Stafford High School. Drew was named after Mr. Edward E. Drew, Jr. – have you ever wanted to know more about him?
